Worldwide, there are about a thousand species of bats, and they represent a quarter of all mammals. They are also considered as flying mice, but in facts, they are more closely related to primates just like humans than they are to mice.

Bats are unique mammals as they can fly. Like other mammals, their bodies are covered with hair. Bats do have the same arm and hand bones that are observed in most other mammals, but their hand and finger bones are slender and long.

Some bats fly at dusk, others at dawn, or daylight and still another species of bats fly in the dark of the night. While flying, they produce a continued stream of high-pitched sounds. Still, the squeaking of roosting bats is found to be at a much lower frequency.
